These are the 2 I've tried with no luck with audio, only video worked. I have had 2 single, not multi, usb-c to hdmi connectors that the audio has not worked on. Webcam: Sonix #46 is more for USB-C to Display I'm having similar problems trying to find an adapter to work with HDMI video and AUDIO especially.

Last to try would be an official Apple adpater, but I am starting to doubt it would change anything, there must be something I am missing (a Kext or some specific pathc in the DSDT ?)įeel free to share your experience on similar items.

One important point, I have SEEN the Cable Matters working several months ago but the rest of the install was not stable sot I had to start over. KKmoon B01NBIA2ID (USB-C to HDMI+RJ45+USB3.0+USB-C): RJ45 and USB 3.0 working (plugged before boot).dodocool 7-in-1 Multifunction USB-C Hub with Power Delivery (USB-C to HDMI+VGA+3xUSB3.0+USB-C): Network and USB 3.0 ports working OOB (plugged before boot).Cable Matters 201014-BLK-N (USB-C to HDMI+VGA+RJ45+USB3.0+USB-C): only USB 3.0 port works (and Ethernet after installing specific AX88772 driver).I have tried several external USB-C to HDMI/VGA adapters, all of them pretending to be compatible with Mac, but none of them seem to work:

So, if you would like a specific recommendation for adapter/cabling for your Mac, or even if the adapter you have linked to will work with your Mac, you must provide the info requested in the following thread:I have a fully working XPS 13 9350, but I am struggling on the external display connection. Sorry, but I've had folks tell me they have a "new MacBook Pro" when the model they just bought was 1-2 years old. You will need to provide more info than "my new MacBook Pro". Whether your Mac has the ability to carry audio or if it even has a mdp on it, I don't have a clue. As I noted in the second half of the above post - that the displayport specification provides for passing audio, there are indeed some computers out since that post was made that do indeed pass audio and video through their displayport or "dp" / mini displayport or "mdp". Yes, the adapter you have linked to will carry audio - if - it's connected to a port that supports audio. Hence it's name: "mini displayport to HDMI adapter". That adapter you have linked to is for a "mini displayport", not "mini-DVI". DVI and mini-DVI do not and will not carry audio. One option for those with the mini-displayport is the following cable to combine audio and video from your Mac into HDMI.įor only $33.60 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Mini Displayport Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter | Mini DisplayPort to HDMI / DVI / VGA Adapterįinsup: if you have a link for the mini-dvi/usb to HDMI, that would be a help for others also.

So, this means you still need a separate audio cable to get the audio to your TV or AV receiver. Those that have begun using this port include Apple, Dell, Asus and others. However, as of the date of this post, the audio portion has not been implemented on any computers that I have seen.

The following video ports on your Mac, or any other PC you may have, do not carry sound and will never carry sound.Ī cable with any of the above as a part of its name also do not and will never carry sound.Ĭonnecting a HDMI cable (that can carry your sound) to one of these ports does not somehow magically enable it to carry sound.Īccording to the specification have the capability of carrying audio/video like HDMI. Here is more info, since we get a lot of these. Glad you got it working.įor those in the future that see this. That's a nice cable there to combine both audio and video.
